Birthday Waltz
What an amazing feeling for our names to be called out first. It was truly unbelievable. Like last week, I was hoping the public would get behind us and yet again they didn’t let us down. A kicking from the judges is so much easier to handle when you know the public are rooting for you.
As ever, I came in on the Monday morning with a positive mental attitude and a spring in my (slightly fatigued) step but to my concern for the first two days I really struggled. The steps, the routine and the timing were just not gelling for me. But then suddenly on the Wednesday something changed and I started to gain some confidence and started to have fun with the dance.
To be honest with you, I knew that the samba was probably not going to be a great dance for me but I hoped that I would improve on my jive last week. Sadly according to the judges, that wasn’t the case.
In my past three dances I have been able to overcome my nerves and really enjoy myself and hopefully my next dance I can improve technically and that, combined with a more relaxed performance will stand me in good stead.
I’m very excited about next Saturday because I have always wanted to dance the waltz. Because of my three previous ballroom dances I know I’ve got a good chance of getting my highest marks yet and I am determined to push myself very hard in training this week and hope to finally impress the judges.
The waltz will be my seventh dance and seven is my lucky number. I proposed to my wife on the 07/07 and she said yes, so I am hoping the judges will say yes too. Surely one of these dances is going to go my way.
I know that there’s a dancer somewhere in me and I’m really hoping that the waltz will bring him out. I really need to show big improvement this week as if I leave the competition one week before getting to Blackpool it would be a bitter pill to swallow.
I’ll be dancing the magical Waltz on my birthday this Saturday which makes it all the more exciting. I wonder if the judges will get me a cake….?
Thanks again for all your support. Bye for now, Craig
Stumble it!

Well done Craig for winning through to Blackpool. I think that waltz was fabulous after the demons (including the judges) you have overcome. I believe you got to Blackpool off your own credit…. and thank you from all Mavarians everywhere for persuading Flavia to get Matt to come into training…… (I think it helped…. Do it again…. it might help this week!) Do you realise we have been waiting for 2 years to see them in dancing hold again!
Happy Birthday Craig!!!! From to Buenos Aires, Argentina
Espero que lo pases muy feliz junto a tu esposa y amigos!
Te veo atraves de internet la temporada de coranation street and Strictly y lo haces muy bien!
Good Night

Hi Craig
Everyone can dance you just have to let go and enjoy (which must be difficult infront of millions) and you have improved no end. I’ll be voting again on Saturday and really hope you make it to Blackpool can see how much it means to you and your family. My 5 year old thinks your great and was over the moon when Jane gave her you authographed picture from when she came to watch you a few weeks ago with Neil, they are so proud of you and have alot of people in Wales rooting for you.
Go and have fun on Saturday and roll on Blackpool.
Hope your Birthday is a good one.
BIRTHDAY WALTZ BRING IT ON!
YOU HAVE NOTHINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG ( AS MAXTON WOULD SAY)
Nothing to fear…..the waltz is here and its your dance! Why i hear you ask? why Rubber dingy is this my dance?…Because Craig Kelly you were born on this day and thats why you are going to glide glide glide and forget everything about the whens and whys and hows….You have rehearsed…You know it now when you hit that stage forget your head and feelllllllllll the music and look at the gorgeous Flavia and dance dance…..dance. ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE TO ANYONE.
Ps
so glad your mommy had you….xx
Never mind the judges getting you a cake – you ought to get one for each of them… and stick it in their faces!
To be fair, it’s difficult to score dances on that show. I always wonder if a 6 is awarded in the first few weeks for ‘a good try’, whereas for a 6 to be awarded in following weeks there needs to be a better performance for the same mark?
I couldn’t believe it when you were on Matthew Wright’s programme this morning – the only morning when I have to leave early for university! And the streaker, too! Very amusing.
Hope you do manage a good waltz on Saturday and get to Blackpool – am sure you will.
And happy birthday!
Happy Birthday for Saturday Craig. Keep up the great work as you are improving. In my opinion the thing which is letting you down is your facial expression (you look scared to death!) I know it’s difficult trying remember the steps & to smile but if the judges could see a more relaxed look on your face I think you would get away with alot, just look at Ricky Groves & Phil Tufnell!
(Just become Luke or some other person when you dance and have fun mate.)
Well done for getting through the Samba. I loved yours and Flavia’s reaction to be saved first. It made all the voting this and previous weeks worthwhile. (And Happy Birthday for this Saturday)…
If anyone can choreograph an amazing (and doable easy) waltz its Flavia (she is amazing at the dance). Please listen to her though – you need to improve your posture and no floppy arms if the waltz is going to work (wear that belt again!)
And fingers crossed that your waltz is lovely on Saturday. Just once I would like you to stand in front of the judges and for them to admit that you had improved (because you have) – grumpy lot (and I include Alesha in that)… Just once I would like them to give you some advice on what you can do to improve – not just say you are a “disahster darling”…!
Happy Birthday for Saturday, Craig. I really hope your wish comes true – couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Fingers crossed for a beautiful Waltz!
Well done on making it through to another week. I thought your Samba was pretty good – you looked as thought you really enjoyed it too. Good luck with the Waltz this week. I hope training goes well and that this will indeed be your dance. Hope you have a lovely birthday – getting through to go to Blackpool will be a lovely birthday present for you.
Congratulations on pulling off a really decent Samba last night … listen to Flavia, you’ve improved beyond all recognition in the past few weeks, and even if the judges are totally blinkered and unable to see this the rest of us can see just how far you’ve come and are voting accordingly!
… good luck for the weekend (happy birthday!), hopefully with a little work on that ballroom posture and presentation you’ll have a beautiful waltz to dazzle the judges with … I’m an optimist and live in hope of the judges actually noticing just how much you’ve improved, despite all evidence to the contary! … I hope you have a fabulous birthday and get the gift of Blackpool to top off a lovely day!
Well done on making it through another week, and Good Luck to you and Flavia for Saturday.
Hopefully the waltz will be a higher scorer for you and that you both get to that that Blackpool goal.
Happy Birthday for Saturday and hope the Waltz is indeed ‘your dance’.
xx
